Gero Heine

Originally from Germany, Gero’s early experiences roaming the Black Forest and exploring the Alps and Dolomites sparked a lifelong passion for wilderness and wildlife.
Gero has since been actively involved in conservation efforts and has participated in a lion research project. For the past 17 years his work has been exhibited in art shows, festivals and galleries across the Western US.  Gero's work has won numerous awards, including the Wildlife category of Nature's Best Magazine's prestigious Windland Smith Rice International Awards and a North American Nature Photography Association Top 10 Award (2011). His work was featured in this year's Wild Lens Magazine Photographer of the Year exhibit.
Gero carefully researches his locations and pre-visualizes his shoots and subjects.  In landscape photography, the weather and clouds play an important function, and he can plan accordingly.  With wildlife photography, his research goes more into the habits and locales of a certain species, and then animals do as they please, so he hopes to be at the "right place at the right time."
